How to Use Your RxCoolers Mini Portable Medical Refrigerator

The RxCoolers Mini Small Portable Medical Refrigerator offers two cooling options to keep your insulin and refrigerated medications perfectly chilled, no matter where life takes you.

Whether you’re commuting through the busy streets of Cape Town, travelling abroad, or simply out for a long day, the RxCoolers Mini gives you the flexibility to rely on electricity when it’s available or use the Biogel cooling pack for off-grid use.

Using the Biogel Cooling Pack (No Power Required)

For situations when you're away from a power source—like road trips through the Karoo, hiking in the Drakensberg, or even catching a flight—the Biogel cooling pack ensures that your insulin and other medications stay cool without the need for power. Here’s how to use it:

1. Prepare the Cooling Pack: Shake the Biogel cooling pack 4-5 times to ensure the gel inside is evenly distributed.
2. Freeze Thoroughly: Place the cooling pack in your freezer for at least 6 to 8 hours. It's fine to leave it longer if needed.
3. Defrost Briefly: Before placing the pack in the cooler, let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes, or soak it in lukewarm water for 2-3 minutes. This helps avoid freezing your medication.
4. Pack and Go: Dry the cooling pack with a clean towel, load your medications, and fit the standard lid (non-USB). Now you're ready for your travels, with your medications safely cooled.
   

Cooling Performance with Biogel Cooling Pack

🌡️ In Mild Conditions (30°C): Keeps medication refrigerated between 2–8°C for up to 30 hours, and cool below 26°C for up to 48 hours.

🌡️ In Warmer Conditions (35°C): Keeps medication refrigerated between 2–8°C for up to 28 hours, and cool below 26°C for up to 46 hours.

🌡️ Up to 35°C: Keeps medication refrigerated at 2–8°C, as long as it's plugged in.

🌡️ In Extreme Heat (40°C): Maintains a cool range of 8–26°C for protecting opened insulin pens, but this is not classified as refrigeration in medical terms.

Care, Cleaning & Maintenance of Your RxCoolers Mini

Your portable refrigerator is a long-lasting medical device, so it’s important to give it the right care. Here’s how to keep everything running smoothly:

✅ Best Practices:

• Keep Upright: Always use and store the cooler in an upright position to ensure it functions correctly.
• Ventilation: Make sure the small heat-dissipation holes on the USB lid are never blocked.
• Dusting: Gently blow away any dust using a can of compressed air or a hairdryer on the cool setting every couple of weeks.
• Rest Periods: Unplug the USB lid for around 15–20 minutes every 4 days of continuous use to give the system a rest. This helps extend the life of the cooling component.

✅ Cleaning:

• Use a damp cloth to wipe the stainless steel body.
• For the USB lid and Biogel pack, use a dry, soft cloth.
• Avoid direct contact with water—especially near any electronic parts.

❌ Avoid the Following

• Don’t submerge any part of the cooler in water.
